Just A Little Training Advice…..

Good afternoon everyone!  I hope that everyone is having a great day so far.  I’m guessing that most people saw the title and thought that they would come and find that magical, legendary, golden, workout plan right? Well I’m sorry to disappoint you all but that is not the case here.  What I am about to say will apply to most people from the newbie lifter to the IFBB Professional.

So you’re ready to start working out and building some muscle but you don’t know where to start.  Like most people, you hit the internet and start looking for the latest and greatest workout plan that man has ever created.  During your search, you come across many appealing titles such as, Arms Like Arnold, Omega Chest Pump, Wheels Of Steel Leg Training, 30 Days To Perfect Abs, and all kinds of other workout plans.  Your eyes get big when you start to imagine the possibilities. After what seems like an eternity, you finally choose The Ultimate Whole Body Transformation Workout designed by Joe Black.  You can’t contain the excitement because you know that in 30 days, you will look a Greek god, or goddess if you’re female.

Fast forward 30 days and you’ve finished your workout plan.  You take a look in the mirror and you see some changes but it wasn’t what you expected.  Anxious for better results, you go back to the internet to look for a different workout plan.  After another 2 hours or so, you find one that you think will give you better results and you give it a try.  Thirty days later, you look in the mirror again with the same disappointment. Desperately searching for that perfect plan, you continue that same 30 day cycle of starting and stopping and after a year, your gains are minimal.

At this point you get frustrated and right when you’re about to give up, you run into a guy named Devrin D. Batiste Sr.  You see him over by the dumbbells with his headphones on, sweat dripping all over the place, and a face full of intensity.  You think to yourself, that’s the man I need to talk to.  Ignoring the angry scowl on his face, you tap him on his shoulder and ask him if you can ask him a question?  That scowl quickly turns into confusion since you are already asking him a question.  He then smiles, turns off his headphones, and says sure go ahead.  You ask him about working out and what workout plan he uses.  Mr. Batiste proceeds to explain to the young man that in order for any workout plan to be effective, you must first have patience.  Just like Rome was not built in a day, your muscular physique won’t be either.  Devrin tells you to take your time and not to rush the process and to also remember that this is more like a journey.  On that journey, you will learn a lot about yourself and that you will be able to use those lessons to your advantage.

Devrin also tells you something that catches your attention.  He says that while he has a workout plan, he only uses it as a guide.  These days, Devrin is a little more in tune with his body than you are, so he knows how to listen to it.  He knows what his body will or will not respond to and he structures his training sets and reps around that.  He explains to you that it is something that you develop over the years and not something that can be taught.  Before your conversation is over, he gives you another tidbit of information to always keep in mind.  He writes something on a piece of paper and hands it to you.  You look at the words, NO GRIND NO SHINE, and ask him what does it mean.  You can see the passion in his eyes and hear it in his voice as he explains that NO GRIND NO SHINE means that you must be willing to go through whatever it is that you must go through to get to wherever you’re trying to get.  Every day won’t be easy and there will be some days where you just want to quit.  Those are the days that will define you.  Those are the days that will either lead you to the greatness that you are destined for, or to the mediocrity that so many settle for.  His last words to you are to never forget to keep GOD first in all that you do and the praise goes to Him and not you.

Now young grasshopper,  what will it be?

My Thoughts: Fitness in Louisiana

It’s 12:55 a.m. and my wife and kids have been sleeping for a few hours now.  I’m lying in bed with The Flintstones on the television and some concerning thoughts in my mind.  For those that don’t know, I live in the small south Louisiana city of Laplace.  Residing about 30 minutes outside of New Orleans, depending on how fast you drive.  The reason my location is important is because of the way that it ties in with the topic of this post.

I’m pretty sure that most of you are aware of the culture here in south Louisiana, especially when it comes to our food.  I must say that the food here is unlike no other.  We either deep fry almost everything here or cover it in some type of gravy.  Honestly, I, as well as most others, really love the food here but it makes me wonder something.  With all of this deep fried and smothered in gravy food, does anyone ever think about what is it doing to our bodies?  In most cases, I can tell you no they don’t.  There are some that realize how unhealthy the food really is, but they just don’t care.  This made me think even deeper.  If most people feel this way about the food then how do they feel about exercising.

From my perspective, fitness in Louisiana is not taken nearly as serious as it should.  Don’t get me wrong, there are  lot of people that do take fitness seriously but there are many more that don’t.  I can’t tell you the number of conversations that I’ve had where someone told me about what they can’t or won’t stop eating.  When I ask do they at least exercise, the most popular answer is that they don’t have the time.  I’ve had people tell me that they have to die from something so why work out.  At that point all I can do is shake my head.  How can they give up or not care so easily? Is that way of thinking confined to just this region?  I would surely like to know.

Hopefully there can be a change in the thinking of the majority of the people here.  While the food is very good here, we must understand that it comes with a price.  Engaging in an exercise regimen would definitely dampen some of the effects of unhealthy eating habits but diet and exercise together is much more effective.

Anyway these are my thoughts of fitness in Louisiana.  Feel free to comment below and thank you all!!!

Online Fitness Training: Starting January 1, 2016

Good evening my friends, I hope that everything is well with you all.  First of all, I would like to wish everyone and their families a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

It has been quite some time since my last post but I have been busy developing other avenues to reach my clients and prospective fitness training clients.

Over the past few months I have setting up my online fitness training services.  Using online fitness training, I will be able to reach more people that are in need of my help. My online fitness training will require a weekly check-in with me through Skype to gauge progress, current and future goals, questions and answers, and any other concern that you all may have.

Everyone that signs up for my online fitness training will receive all the necessary information needed to start their training on January 1 2016. I will also give everyone a sample eating plan according to their current weight and their goal weight.  Each person that registers will also receive a questionnaire that will help me to design their training and sample meal plan.

For more information, or to sign up, email me at batistefitness@yahoo.com and we will go over your goals, training, pricing, and how to pay.

Once again I would like to thank you all in advance and have a wonderful evening!!!!

When the Motivation Is Gone

Good evening everyone, I hope you all are having a great day.  I was asked not long ago about what to do when I lose my motivation to workout.

My answer is very simple.  You have to remind yourself  of why you first started.  Sometimes we tend to lose focus of why we started and we end up falling by the wayside.  Our jobs, moods, or other outside circumstances, sometimes dictate whether or not we continue on the fitness journey.

Remember this, we all fall short at times.  I know that this is cliché but truth is that it is not how many times you fall nor how hard you fall.  The only thing that matters is whether or not you continue to rise.  Every time you rise from a fall, you rise higher than the previous time.  You are smarter and more knowledgeable, and you know how to handle those rough spots.

These are my words to those that are lacking motivation. When the motivation dips, remember your reason for starting the journey.  Don’t allow life to beat you down and keep you there because it will if you let it.

Lift That Weight Woman!!!!

I have a question for the ladies.  How many of you go to the gym, take a look at the treadmills and ellipticals, then glance over at the weights only to hop on the treadmill or elliptical for a marathon of cardio?  If I had to guess, I would say of 90% of the ladies that will read todays post.

About a week ago, I spoke with a lady in the gym where I currently train and she said that she will leave the weights alone for a little while.  When I asked her why, she said that her muscles are getting hard.  She told me that she is feeling better and her clothes are fitting better also but she doesn’t want the muscle.  I asked her why not and she said that she doesn’t want to look like a man.

Now I know that you all would like to know how the rest of the conversation went, but after you read this you will have a pretty good idea of how it went.  Ladies, I do not know where the assumption that weights will make you look manly comes from but it is totally FALSE!!!!  You can bench press 225 lbs, squat 315 lbs, deadlift 400 lbs, and do all of the bicep curls that you want and not EVER look like a man.  Weight training will only help you lose body fat faster than just doing cardio and it will also help you get stronger.  Now when I say weight training, I do not mean working out with a 5 lb dumbbell.  You have to  use some real weight that will challenge you to get better.

Remember that just about anything that you do burns calories.  You even burn calories while you are sitting down watching television.  By challenging yourself with heavier weight, you will actually burn more calories than using light weight.  Because it takes more energy to move heavy weight, your body will burn more calories.

As for the ladies that say they only want to tone up, I have a question.  Do you understand what toning up actually is?  If you do not know, toning up is another word for building muscle and that will only come from weight training.  You can take two ladies that are the same height, same weight, same age, and eat the exact same foods.  Give one lady a cardio only workout and give the other lady a workout with cardio and weight training. Guess what, their bodies will look totally different from one another.  The lady that does only cardio may have low body fat but in addition to losing fat, she will also lose muscle. She will most likely look flat and shapeless.  On the other hand, the lady that does cardio and weight training will have low body fat, very nice muscle tone, and she will maintain her curves.

The reason that you won’t ever look like a man by weight training is pretty simple.  God did not give you the right hormones that will make you look like one.  That hormone, testosterone, was given to the males.  Now I know your next question will be, How come some of those ladies that are bodybuilders look like men?  My answer to that question is…… Testosterone.  Yes, the very same hormone that I said God gave to the males.  This testosterone that those ladies have are not naturally occurring.  They have to inject into their bodies.  Understand now? Great!!!!

Now that you all have a better understanding of why you should weight train and what it does for you, I hope that you can apply this to your training routine to help you reach your goals.  Now get in the gym and LIFT THAT WEIGHT WOMAN!!!!

Good evening everyone, how are you all doing today?

It is about time for me to answer the question, who is Batiste Fitness?  I could easily say that I, Devrin Batiste Sr., am the Owner of Batiste Fitness and end it all there.  However, I will not do that.  My goal is to help as many people as I can reach their health and fitness goals while being able to do what I love for a living.  Having said that, I will go into great detail as to who Batiste Fitness is and our purpose.

For those that do not know, I, Devrin Batiste Sr., am the Owner of Batiste Fitness.  Batiste Fitness was started in January of 2012 when I received my Personal Fitness Trainer certification.  I acquired my certification through the International Sports Science Association (ISSA) and I also have CPR and AED certification.  Since then, I have helped many people achieve their goals.  Some people requested my training services and some only needed advice, but I have never turned down a request for help from anyone.

When someone hires me as their trainer, they get high quality training services that I combine with highly effective motivational strategies to help them reach their goals.  Whether it is fat loss, muscle building, increasing strength, etc., I give full attention to the needs of my clients.

Batiste Fitness offers indoor and/or outdoor training, 1 on 1 training, and group training sessions, depending on the goals of the client.  I have a target age range of 16 to 45 years old and I DO NOT train pregnant women.  I’m sorry ladies but I have a thing against training pregnant women.

As far as my rates go, all training rates are $30 per session for all training types.  Each session usually last about 45 minutes to 1 hour with the very first session usually lasting a little bit longer.  Each client receives weight and body fat tracking so that they can follow their results.

The future of Batiste Fitness is very bright.  I am planning on opening my own gym/fitness center with TONS of amenities for all members.  I have many ideas that no other gym is doing currently and I pray to GOD that one day He will allow my dream to come true.

As I end this post, I would like to thank all of you for reading and do not hesitate to contact me for your training needs at batistefitness@yahoo.com
