Weight Loss / Body Fat Reduction

Good evening everyone.  How are you all today?  Our topic for today is one that a lot of people struggle to get control of.  Weight loss, or what I prefer to call it, body fat reduction, is an issue with millions of people.  How to, what exercises to do, and what should I eat are some of the questions that people have when trying to lose body fat.  I will also let you all know why I prefer to call it body fat reduction instead of weight loss.  Let me thank all of you in advance for reading todays post and don’t forget to follow BatisteFitness here on WordPress.

Body fat reduction may be a complicated process if you do not know how to reduce it.  I see a lot of people talking about how much they like the program like P90X or Insanity or any other program that is being sold but the truth is that none of them are really necessary to reduce your body fat.  Don’t get me wrong, those programs really do work if you stick to them but the exercises that they do are based on simple aerobic exercises that accomplish the same thing.  All they did was modify them a little and sped up the workout to get your heart rate up.  Now let’s be honest, how many people have actually finished the whole P90X or Insanity programs?  I’m sure that a few of you have but not many people do.  Wanna know why?  Lack of motivation, workouts are just too tough, and no type of feedback.  When you stand in front of a television and watch a workout video, who’s there urging you to keep pushing?  How many times have you started the workout and can’t even finish the set?  Can you ask the people on the videos a question when you’re working out?  Nope!  Can you talk about how your kids are growing up so fast or how you burned that steak last night or even share a laugh with them?  No you can not.  You may not think so but those are very important when it comes to working out for the simple fact that first of all, it makes the workout go by faster and you enjoy it more.  Second, you have someone there with you to urge you on when the workout gets tough.  You can even make it a competition with your workout partner/partners to motivate you to do your best and complete the workout.

Now I’m pretty sure that some of you are wondering why I prefer to say body fat reduction instead of weight loss.  The reason I say body fat reduction is because body fat is what you want lose.  Your body weight consists of: water weight, fat, muscle mass, and bones.  Water is the easiest to lose because everyone sweats but you will always have some water weight.  Of course you know that water is essential for life and you definitely don’t want to get dehydrated.  Trust me, dehydration is NOT a good feeling at all.  I got dehydrated once and I thought I was dying.  Muscle mass is something that you start to lose as you get older OR when you workout to build strength and muscle and you aren’t getting the proper nutrition.  A lot of people try to avoid carbohydrates but whether you are building muscle or trying to reduce your body fat, you need some sort of carbohydrates in your body.  The difference is knowing what types and when to eat them.  Carbs are important because your body uses them for energy throughout the day.  Most people tend to lean toward eating simple carbs, the bad ones, such and white rice, sugar, and ALL sorts of processed foods.  Your body burns simple carbs at a high rate and you end up being hungry all over again and most of the time you end up eating the same simple carbs that you ate previously.  Complex carbs, the good ones, such as fresh fruits and veggies, wheat bread, and organic foods, leave you feeling satisfied for a longer period of time because it takes your body a longer time to break them down.  Those are the carbs that you want to eat whether your building muscle of reducing your body fat.  Bodybuilders eat alot of those good clean carbs because they workout so hard and they need the energy to sustain those workouts.  People that are trying to lose fat should eat them too but more in moderation.  If you are losing fat, try to eat most of your carbs earlier in the day.  Eating them at night when your body is settling down is not a good idea because instead of using them for energy, your body will store the carbs as fat.

So there you go.  This is just some of the stuff that I have learned in my quest for knowledge.  Remember this, when it comes to working out to reduce your body fat, nothing is set in stone.  What I’m saying is that just because you can use one workout routine to lose fat or build muscle doesn’t mean that it’s the only way.  There are many different ways to accomplish the same goals.  You can even try modifying and existing exercise or workout.  If it’s giving you results then keep on doing it.  Once again I would like to say THANK YOU to all read this and stay tuned for my next post and don’t forget to follow me.  Later!!!

What’s a good amount of carbs? How do you know how many to take in?

    • It depends on your training. The more training you are going to do, the more carbs you’re going to need. For you, multiply 2 – 2.5 grams times your body weight. That is how much you would normally need to make it through the day. Alot of bodybuilder take in way more than that during their training but they have to if they want to build more muscle. The closer they get to a show they tend to cut back to 100 grams or less per day.
